SP2 - invalid cd key??

I'm trying to install sp2 however I get the following message invalid cd key
go to www.howtotell.com for more information. microsoft allowed me to instal
sp1 without any problems , and i do have a perfectly valid cd key for windows
xp pro. Any ideas around the issue like changing registry values or keys?
