I've read several post regarding SP2 update inabling their
USB port. Has anyone received a response from Microsoft
regarding this problem. SP2 killed my USB ports and I was
not even able to get the update installed because of
the "access denied" error message.

Will a reinstall of Windows XP reinstate my USB ports.
Device Manager says they are working properly but they
stopped working after a "failed attempt" to install XP2.
Regarding article KB 870893, about having ac power on the
USB peripheral is not the solution for what a failed
install attempt did to my USB port. The equipment I have
connected to my USB ports is on ac power. In addition,
XP2 failed to install with an "access denied". Does anyone
have any answers/solution to what I am experiencing. >---

You shouldn't have to reinstall WINXP to fix your USB problem. Go to Device
Manager and delete everything under the Universal Serial Controllers tab,
then reboot. WINXP will then reinstall the USB drivers.

I'm not having the problem when installing SP2, though I had a few unrelated
problems (due to spyware). It's only when I'm trying to reinstall the drivers
for my USB drive that I get the "access is denied" message. There shouldn't
be any admin problems, because the computer only has one user and doesn't
need to log on to a network. The USB port is enabled in BIOS and is connected
properly (things can receive power from the drive). Any ideas???

I am also having a similar problem. After installing SP2 I cannot install
any additional USB devices. I get the Hardware Wizard that looks for a
driver and does not find any and then asks if I want to check the internet,
also with no results. The device shows up in Device Manager with a question
mark and properties says that no driver is installed. Tried chat for SP2
during their "normal operating hours" but all I get is a message that Chat is
not available. Any help would be appreciated.
