Hi,

My question is- where the install file of Windows XP Sp2
is located on the machine? I've downloaded it using
Automatic update, but can't find that file on the
system.Everything is switched on to search elswhere on
the machine, but...

Hi

The temporary installation files should be in a subfolder here:

%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\Download\

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows)

I think the files normally are automatically purged after 10 days.

Perhaps you can help

I'm still unable to update to xp sp2. Have downloaded file, but then get
failed installation message with no error codes.

Reckon its something to do with registry, but do not know how to fix it.
The copy of xp is genuine, as are codes etc etc.

Really, just don't know where to start!?

Hi

So you are installing SP2 using the large (266 MB) installation file?

Some log files you can check for any clues or error messages:

%windir%\Svcpack.log
%windir%\setupapi.log

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows)
