SP2 made my bluetooth mouse undiscoverable

I've been using the MS Bluetooth Notebook 5000 mouse with my HP notebook
that has a built-in bluetooth transmitter. Though the automatic
discovery never worked between the two but after manually adding the
mouse after each bootup, the mouse worked fine before the SP2 upgrade.
Since then the mouse doesn't show up in the paring window at all. Has
anybody else had this experience? Any solution to it?

Microsoft made some changes to Bluetooth support in Vista with SP2.

It made Vista incompatible with Broadcom's WIDCOMM 6.1 drivers and software.
Broadcom recently released WIDCOMM 6.3 to fix this and it works for the most
part (there are still some bugs).

I mention Broadcom, because although they only manufacture the Bluetooth
communications chip, a lot of hardware vendors sell devices using it under
their own brand name.

You mentioned the laptop was made by HP, but not the model. So I can't
check the web page to see if that is what you have.


Broadcom's install program will actually do the check to verify that you are
using their chip before the actual downloading and installing of any
software, it doesn't contain any drivers. So you might want to give it a
try anyways.

I think my notebook (HP Pavillion tx1410us) uses the Broadcom chip. I'll
see if I could update the driver as you suggested.

OK, I checked the Bluetooth device info and it says: "HP Integrated Module
with Bluetooth 2.0 Wireless." Driver Provider: Broadcom, Date: 6/19/2007,
Version: 6.2.6000.1
The software at the above broadcom link won't install with the message:
"This program cannot upgrade your software. Please contact the manufacturer
of your Bluetooth device for support." I checked the HP Web site for drivers
and software for this particular notebook but did not see any recent
versions there. So I am stuck.

I've the same problem, however with a Samsung R560 laptop. The Bluetooth
chip is from Broadcom and the update tool works for me. However I'm only
getting version 6.2 when running it, with which the Notebookmouse 5000 still
doesn't work. Where did you guys get the 6.3 drivers? I searched like crazy
but couldn't find them.

This is my first time posting to a newsgroup, so please don't hit me if i
broke any rules I don't know about.

Sorry, I saw 6.3 somewhere, but I checked and it is 6.2. Try as I might I
still make mistakes.

Have you tried re-pairing (is that where the word repair comes from?) them?
I have never used a Bluetooth mouse before so I am no help is this area.

Yes I had tried to re-pair (neat play on words indeed) the mouse, but it
didn't work. When I read your message I decided to give it another shot.
This time however I removed the mouse from the wireless devices list before
I attempted to re-pair it, et volià it actually worked! Before it wouldn't
discover the device. Thanks a bunch for inducing me to try again, solved a
lot of headache here.

Of course, delete and reestablish pairing... so obvious! I had to do that
for the phone, too.

I'm glad you got it working... I did hear Bluetooth loose connection after a
while or when the computer falls asleep or something. Let me know if you
run into that and don't forget to email Broadcom with feedback. I'm keeping
tabs on how the Bluetooth software is progressing.

Yeah, that did the trick for me, too! I even sent an email to HP Customer
Care that suggested downloading the 6.0 software when I already had 6.2
installed. It sounded like a canned response from India, so I immediately
discounted it. In my reply I did pass along your simple solution though.
