SP2 - no msconfig found, internet connection is wacky!!

My PC was set for an automatic update of SP2

Since this happend - I have noticed problems.

For one - msconfig (typed in the run command line) says file does not exist?

Another - I disabled the XP Security as I use Zone Alarms and LynxSys Router
- BUT - I still have times when IE (or even firefox) will not connect. Or -
it connects, then connection will be lost on a page. (btw - I am not sure if
the XP Security is totally disabled - I set the settings as disable - the XP
Security ICON no longer - BUT - I Still Get XP Security Pop-up warnings. So
- it has been hidden, perhaps.

All is all - how do I get myself out of this mess? SP2 seems to be a pain.

I have installed new programs since the upgrade - and I have tried using
restore - but it is not working right.
