Bought son i-pod touch which requires SP2..install of SP2 stops and error
message says "The file c:\windows\system32\ftp.exe is open or in use by
another application. Close all other applications and then click retry." I
have done everything I know, ftp.exe is not in system32 but in I386, is not
being used per TaskManager and I do not have my Windows boot CD...any help is
greatly appreciated, son is getting more and more ****ed at me as he can't
use I-tunes to get his songs onto the Touch...Thanks, Chris_NY

Why wasn't WinXP SP2 installed 4 years ago?

Chances are the machine has a hijackware infection, Chris.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827315

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30,
http://forums.spybot.info/forumdisplay.php?f=22,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html, or other appropriate forums for review
by an expert in such matters, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.

It appears the system is pWned, Chris. Probably running as a bot server.
You can get no charge support from MS to find out just what's up. MS is
getting good results breaking down these bot networks :
