SP2 not installing (access denied) Error 80070005

Using a Sony PCG-GRV550 Laptop with XP
Have attempted to install SP2 from the net and from a file with no resolve/

I find that some the instruction given in the knowledge base and
troubleshooting are either not helpful or not able to do.
Example:
Suggestion 2: of "http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/"
says to 3. Right-click on the folder name and select Properties from the
popup menu. 4. Click on the Security tab.
I do not have this tab.

The setupapi.log has this type of items.

I'm seeing the same problems on a XP Home Ed and XP Pro.
You need to go into the registry and change the
permissions for the administrer to full control. The
problem is if you have one you may have many with this
problem. I'm hoping MS provides a registry check before
installing the patch rather than 1-2 hours of processing
and then terminating.

Updates from the Windows Update Web site are not installed and an "Error
0x80070005: Access is denied" error message is logged to the Windows Update.log
file

This error message may occur if you have insufficient permissions to the Windows
Update registry keys. The WindowsUpdate.log file will also read errors
0x80070005 and 0x80080005.
