SP2 not letting me start up

Hi!

When I restart my computer, after installing SP2, it just restarts, and
brings up a menu where I can choose to start in Safe Mode etc.

The computer starts fine in Safe Mode, but when I try Safe Mode with
Networking, the same problem happens (it just restarts).

When I remove SP2 (from Safe Mode) everything goes back to normal. I have
tried this once, then scanned my computer for Adware, using Ad-Aware first,
then the Microsoft Anti-Spyware beta. Tried installing SP2 again, and same
problem. Then checked for other updates on Windows Update. Found some,
installed them, restarted, installed SP2 again, and same problem. Ran a full
virus scan, another more thorough Adware scan (with both programs) - didn't
find anything, Defragmented my disk, Ran Norton WinDoctor, tried to install
again - and guess what?? I'm here aren't I?

How do I solve this?? Please... HELP!

PS I downloaded the full file installation after the first time, and tried
that all along.

Thanks in advance...

Noam Nelke, Israel.

My guess may be a hardware problem.
Update to the latest Windows XP drivers.
Disconnect all unnecessary hardware such as printer, scanner, camera etc.

Also follow the Service Pack Installation Checklist to install SP-2:

Thanks... but I did that already... I forgot to mention... I basicly did
everything I could find on the newsgroups and on the web. (otherwise I
wouldn't have posted this).

But that reminds me of something: My CD-ROM is causing some problems lately.
Could that be the problem? Should I phisycaly disconnect it and try again?

I already tried disconnecting all EXTERNAL hardware, including the ethernet
cable to my router, but: I've noticed, like I said earlier that after I
install SP2 I can start the computer in Safe Mode but NOT in Safe Mode with
Networking. Could the problem be related to my Network Adaptor? Should I try
to disconnect that?

Thanks again for your help,

Noam Nelke, Israel.

Thanks for the suggestion Taurarian,

I forgot to mention, though, that I've tried THAT as well... I think I've
tried everything on the newsgroups...

My guess is that it's a remaining trace of spyware that no spyware-removal
software could find (I've tried Ad-Aware, Microsoft Anti-Spyware beta, and
some standalone, specialized, tools for removing some hard to remove
spyware). Or, some error in the registry that Norton WinDoctor couldn't find.

Anyway, I've decided to just back everything up, format the HD and install a
fresh copy of windows on it. I have a hunch it'll help. I think it's good to
do, every once in a while, anyway.

Thanks for your help,

Noam.

Before you go that far, if you already haven't, you could perform a Repair
Installation:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/repaxp.htm
Then install SP-2:
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/spackins.htm
If it works, you have saved a Clean Installation.
