After a fresh install of xp home (full version 2002) and all high priority
updates including sp2, I have been unable to install any "Optional hardware
updates." The only hardware I changed was getting a new hard drive. I had no
problem installing the following updates under sp1:
- Microsoft Corporation - Other Hardware - AMD K7 Processor Failed
- Marvell Semiconductor - Networking - Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI
Gigabit Ethernet Controller Failed
- Nvidia Corporation - Video - NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 Ultra Failed
Anyone else having problems updating optional hardware updates under sp2?
Thank goodness I haven't re-installed everything yet. I'm going re-install
from scratch and leave the sp2 off. I bet I'll be able to install everything
else then. I hope you "Windows" people get this stuff fixed. It's so
impossible to find the optional updates here and manually install them. I
shouldn't have to do that!
