Clean install of WINXP Pro.

I have a P4 Prescott 3.2Ghz (Stepping 3) CPU, so I loaded the KB885626
update first (after making sure I had the latest BIOS version), then
installed SP2.

Now computer takes like 5 min's to boot up, and the microsoft startup and
shutdown sounds sound like a slow drown... Everything worked fine before
SP2...

I submited a request to MS, but still waiting for a response.
Hoping maby I can get a faster response here...

Ok, for anyone else having this problem, I kinda have an update...

It's a BIOS issue... for some strange reason Gigabyte has not updated the
BIOS for my motherboad to fix this:

It looks like the problem is the BIOS is not "installing a production level
microcode update".

To check whether the BIOS is at the right level, download the Intel
Processor Frequency ID utility from this page:
http://support.intel.com/support/pro...s/frequencyid/

The microcode version is identified by this utility as "CPU Revision". My
CPU is:
CPU Family = 15
CPU Model = 3
CPU Stepping = 3
CPU Revision = Unknown
The microcode revision should be at least 8 (if it is zero, then no
microcode update was installed at all)

Why Microsoft can't just make it work, like it did before SP2 is beyond me...
