Sp2 prevents computer completing shutdown

Since installing SP2, my advent 7027 laptop will no longer completly
shutdown, buts hangs at the "windows is now shuting down". I then have to
manually shutdown (power off button!) If I remove SP2 everthing works
normally once again! I have not had any other problems with other software
when SP2 is installed!
Any thoughts as to where the problem lies?

Maybe not much help, but I can sure feel for you. I had an installation of
roxio software go awry and exibited the same. There were/are several fixes
for the shutdown problem listed on google, none worked. (Never did try
playing with the service packs.) That OS install limped with me manually
shutting it down for about 9 months until it degraded to the point of a fresh
OS install. That fixed it :-) At least you know you can clear it with the SP
removal. (win2k install for me)
