I recommend you reinstall Windows XP Service Pack 2, and then take a look at
the errors you may be getting once you reinstall.
You might try using the direct download point for Windows XP SP2.
SP2 is available at the Microsoft Download Center (please disregard the IT
Professionals and Developers portion of this, as it will run on an
individual computer as well: (266 MB)
