Hello has anyone found a fix or identified what is causing programs not to
start since installing sp2?

I am having problems with IE which either will not open at all or opens then
stops responding.

Also when programs crash I can not open task manager?

this is most annoying, as I spend hours rebotting my pc to get it to work.

I have uninstalled sp2 and the problems stoped for a short time, but now Iam
back to the same problems as before.

Any one got any idea whats going on?

thanks

Hello Jim
Thanks for the reply.
I have Norton 2005 Internet Security Installed so I know its not a virus.
The problems began after installing sp2.
I have noticed that the crutical updates I have installed are part of sp2
and I have read the self help on Microsoft that states that sp2 does cause
problems with other applications.

However there is no fix for the problems its seems to be causing with its
own software.

Some programs are affected by sp2 but not to many.
I would suggest you run sfc.exe /scannow
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;310747
this utility will check windows xp.
There was problem in the past with windows explorer and IE
they where taking to may cpu cycles thus stalling. Usually one can check the
cpu cycles taken by ie or we in the task manager.

One utility I use for monitoring what goes on my computer is process
explorer from sysinternals
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/fr.../procexp.shtml
it's a bit technical but it will show you what goes on.

Error oir problems can sometimes show up in the event viewer.
%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s
