SP2/Recovery nightmare

I got stuck in a non-ending loop of booting, shutting down and re-booting
again. The F8 safe mode, last configurations etc., solutions did not work.
Then attempted to use the recovery discs. When part A finished I discovered
I could not remove part A disc to install part B. Drawer for the CD would
not open but the DVD drawer kept opening. I shut down the computer and then
turned it back on which allowed me to put part B in. Part B would not run.
Now I am getting nothing but "<windows root>\system 32\HAL.DLL" - Windows
could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.

Windows won't start without the hall.dll
You can only , in my opinion, do two things:
use the recovery console ( technical: you have to copy and
replace the hall.dll file)
or
do a repair installation.
Try again using your disks.
You'll have to boot from the cd or the dvd.
if the same thing happens insert B in the dvd and see if
it works. you cannot boot between A & B. if b won't start
in the dvd then boot from the dvd and try a&b there.
