SP2 Still Crashing Explorer.exe

I've seen a number of threads about having similar problems installing XP
SP2, but I still haven't had any luck successfully installing it on my
laptop. Maybe someone can help me out?

I have an IBM T30 with XP Home. The computer is spyware and virus free. I
use Spybot, Symantec Anti-virus Client, and Zone Alarm Free. After
installing SP2 (with firewall and anti-virus programs completely off), when I
try to access Windows Explorer, My Computer, or Internet Explorer, Dr. Watson
opens up with the following error:

After Dr. Watson pops open, not even the taskbar will work, and the only way
I can restart the computer is through the Task Manager. I tried signing in
as a different user and I even tried creating a new user account, but I ran
into the same problems each time. XP works fine in safe mode, however, which
seems to be the case for most people with my problem.

I did have Divx installed on the computer. I tried uninstalling SP2,
uninstalling Divx, then re-installing SP2, but I still got the error. Tried
the same thing with Google Toolbar, which I heard was causing trouble; still
no luck. I also tried upgrading my Netgear WG511 card to the new beta
firmware that's SP2 compatible, but that didn't help either.

I feel like I've tried every possible thing to get SP2 to install on my
laptop, but nothing I do ever seems to help. Perhaps someone can decypher
the cryptic Dr. Watson message I put up above. Here's the stuff from the

Were there any more details? This shows (I guess) that drwtsn32
was reporting an error but doesn't give any clues about what it was
intercepting.

Your extract from drwtsn32.log shows that explorer.exe crashed?
So your desktop is disappearing? You have truncated the log so
that it is impossible to say anything else about the crash. Find the
last instance of FAULT -> and extract the Stack Back Trace which
follows it.

What kind of processor do you have?
See if disabling DEP can change your symptom.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for trying to help. I have a P4 M 1.6GHz processor (drwatson
lists it as: 'x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 4') on my laptop. Yes,
explorer.exe crashes and my desktop disappears, but when it reappears, I
can't click on anything. I didn't know how much of the error log to post
because I had no idea what it meant, so here's the last half of it. Hope

I uninstalled SP2 already because I couldn't get any work done on my laptop
in that messed up state. When I have a few spare hours, I'll try installing
SP2 again and disabling DEP. I'll post a message and let you know if it
