The other day I had a notfication the SP2 was ready to dl. I clicked on the
icon. Nothing. But when I check my installation history it says the dl for
SP2 was cancelled and other updates failed. I have my comp set for auto
updates. And now the update notice icon is stuck on my tool bar and when you
run the mouse over the icon it says..."downloading updates 0%". Ive rebooted
and more then once and its still there..grrr and clicking on it does nothing.
And according to the updates page there are no more updates to dl. My
question is how do I get rid of the icon and when will I be able to dl SP2
again although Im questioning the sense in that seeing all the problems
involved. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Robin, I'm right there with ya! I have a brand new Windows XP Home Edition
SP1 installation. I did everything the instructions said to set my system up
for the SP2 download, including the use of that Microsoft utility that checks
your system for you. But, like you, I get the stuck icon in the toolbar. I
have tried changing the Update settings from a certain day/time to "download
whenever and notify me," rebooted and eveything, but nothing has worked. I
hope somebody can help us. I don't want to install any of my other software,
drivers, etc. until I have SP2 installed and stable. Any suggestions out
there? We would very much appreciate them! John

Tonight I was updating a computer that had not been updated. WU had updates
forme immediately I installed the updates but after restart noticed that WU
had not been updated. Iwent to the website and updated it . After restart i
noticed the same thing that you guys have experienced. I happened to see your
posts because I was going to update this machine to SP2. I turned off WU V5
and the icon went bye bye. I then turned WU back on and the icon has not
returned during the time that I have been writing this and I am no speed
demon typist. Maybe this will help.

You're welcome. Go to control panel then choose security center. Choose
automatic updates and then choose turn off. Ron
