SP2 Update error 0x800b0100

Hi,
I updated to SP2 for XP and now every time I try to update I get the above
error. All other live update services also fail such as Norton Anti Virus,
Symantec Firewall. I also can't seem to update manually either.

Hope you can help.

can you provide detailed message from event log? Please scan the application,
security and system event logs and provide the full message from that. Few
experts on this newsgroup might be able to help you on that.

Another area to look for error messages would be:
C:\Windows\Windows Update.log
or Windows update log located in drive/directory where OS is installed

I'm having the same problem, but I'm trying to install SP2, not just any
other application.

the application and security log look fine. The system log reports the
following:

NTServicePack, event 4373.
Windows XP Service Pack 2 installation failed.
No signature was present in the subject.

Taking the event link back to Microsoft indicates that they have no
information on this issue.

The Windows Update log showed no entry after August of 2004 (It's Sept 2004
now)..thinking that it was over full, I cleared it out.

I've disabled Mcafee and I'm going to try again

No go. Still having the same problem. If others are having this problem and
going through repeated attempts to auto-Update or manually download and
update, this is sure to have a negative impact on the internet.

Tried once more after disableing Microsoft's firewall. Still no go.

After intalling the SP2 also my system (sony vaio) doesn't allow
downloads anymore!
Surfing web still perfect, also P2P, but every downloads from wherever
site doesn't work anymore! (even from google...like the toolbar)
Also Windows Update doesn't work and give back the 0x800b0100 error
(probably its unable to download the ActiveX that it uses).

Only with Opera, if I STOP AND RESUME every 10 seconds i'm able to
finish some download..but with every other browser the downloads keeps
forever with no data exchenged.

I usually install all the MS updates, but this SP2 is a Nightmare and
hangs my Notebook Sony Vaio !

i had the same problem here in South Brazil after downloading SP2 [Número do
erro: 0x800B0100] and i still don´t disable my Norton Internet Security to do
so. This is here a powerfull toy to stop bad internet agents such as
trojans...
why doesn´t microsoft inform us as such as this m.f.s.o.a.b events?

If you have Windows XP, a batch file that I have created might help
out on this problem.

Go to
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm#C...Service_Pack_2

Look for fixdb.bat under "Error 0x800710D9 Unable to read from
or write to the database". Download and run it.
