SP2 Update Fails

When I attempt to install Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, it appears to
initialize correctly. It gets all the way to the actual installation, past
the registry and driver checks... and then it stops. I get an error saying
'SP 2 failed to initialize properly' and then 'SP2 failed to install'. This
error is in the update log. 0x87ff054f

Any tips, tricks or answers?

Same here. We use WSUS in our AD 2003 environment. A couple of our PCs are
showing this error. Then, the local system log produces event ID 4373, source
NTServicePack with "an internal error occured". Any ideas are appreciated!

I have the exact same issue. The only difference is that I an doing the
update through the MS Windows Update web site, not off a local server. The
failure occurs right as it begins the "install".

Computer is a Dell Inspiron 2600 with 1GHz processor, 256Mb, 30Gb disk. It
runs XP now, but no SP on it.

Open to any ideas or help.

I too have this issue. Actually, I have been unable to install the SP2 since
I first got the disk. Subsequently, I have repeatedly tried to do the
auto-update with no luck.

I also have the same problem and haved tried to update on 4 occasions,
however always resulting in failure.

Any help would be appreciated.
