SP2 update killed my comp lol

I just installed the update (SP2, I think) on my computer
(not the one i am using now). The computer was operating
fine before the update, now it will only start in safe
mode. It restarts every time I try to start in normal
mode. System restore did not change anything, loading
with last know good configuration also failed to result
in a change. In safe mode, it appears that I cannot even
access the internet- what can I do now to try to get my
computer working again? I am running windows xp home-

I would ( in safe mode) try:
control panel\system\advanced\startup and recovery setting
uncheck auto restart if it's enabled. try normal start.
You should check the event viewer in the control panel
\administrative\event viewer if you find the error.
