sp2 update, locks up

After installing sp2, on xp home, the computer locks up during post install.
I found a article that stated the bios may need flashed to be supported my
sp2, my bios could not be flashed. I have upgraded the board and proccessor
and still have the same problem. I can boot up in safe mode. Does anybody
have an idea of what to try next.
