Hi guys

I was offered the sp2 update this morning. Having clicked Download about
2 hours ago, nothing seems to have happened. Is this normal or what?

Should I wait a while or try to download it again?

Many thanks

Phil

It's a large file, are you on dial up?

Hello Phil,
Some of it depends on your internet connection speed: dialup will be slow.
Some of it depends on what other user apps & startup programs are up & running.
(Hopefully you closed all your apps. eg, do not browse the net, view email. I'd exit everything, with the exception of software firewall, if you have one.)

If you are knowledgeable, bring up Task Manager, and see how may Processes are running.
Also, if you look at the System Notification area (or aka Systray), right-click the network icon, and select Status---you can see how many bits or packets are moving (sent / received).

If you see no internet traffic, and, you do not see update.exe or wu*----.exe as a running process, then it may have halted.
Though I expect that if MS turned on the SP2 via Automatic Updates , that the "spigot" is deliberately slow.

No, broadband.

3 hours later, still nothing.

I'm on broadband. Checked Task Manager - nothing like that is or was
running. I have noticed sometimes in the past that even smaller updates
seem to take a short while to get started, but this one is taking the
mickey a bit.

Take a good look at the last entries (for today) in your log file for Windows Updates.
in Windows directory
Windows Update.log

If this is on V5 of W U, no space in the filename.

Advice: see the SP2 forum at Aumha.org

If you feel like it you can download the full SP2
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
You can burn the file to CD and save if ever you need it.

It will be available on CD in the near future
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...s/default.mspx

I received the update last night around 7pm. I have a broadband connection
but expected it to take a while . I clicked installed and came back this
morning to find that nothing has happened. I expected to find a message to
reboot the computer, but found nothing. I went to the windows update site to
check my download history and see that it does not appear in my history. So
you are not alone.

I had the exact same problem. I checked my installation history. Nothing
happened. There was no download. Looks like a typical Microsoft bug... The
problem is that I have not been able to manually download because of how they
are distributing the update...
