SP2 upgrade problem

I downloaded and installed SP2. The update was
successful, but on re-boot the machine now goes into
the "won't bootup loop" where it returns to BIOS startup
before loading the UI. I can't even boot it up in safe
mode. I can, however, boot to the recovery console.

What's wrong and how can I fix this?

How about "Last known good configuration"?

If not, perform a Repair Installation:

What kind of PC? I had this on one with XP-home. Upgraded to XP-pro and it
went much better.
