I tried to install the new SP2 onto a windows 2003 x64 server, by downloading
the .exe file from MS but it failed with the following error

"The Service pack 2 d:\...\update.inf file is not correct"

I have also tried via windows update, but this also failed (after the files
were downloaded OK) with the error code 0x8007F00C.

Any ideas, or anyone else seeing these errors with SP2?

What is the present windows 2003 version that is shown in help\about. Not the Update file that you are trying to install.

I am having the exact same issue with Windows 2003 Standard. Peter, did you
come up with a solution for this? I am also getting svchost.exe failures
(faulting module ntdll.dll) in the Event Log, but I am not sure if they are
related.

I am having the same problem with Window XP. The security Update for Windows
Media Player 6.4 (KB925398) keeps failing. I have WMP11 installed. I've seen
a lot of posts related to this problem but none of the fixes worked. I've
cleared the DataStore and download folder but it keeps trying to install and
keep failing. Can I stop this from installing? Any help?

I, too, am in the same boat with you guys. Like Rick, my issue is when
trying to update Server 2003 Standard SP1 to SP2. I've tried the online
update and I've downloaded the .exe. Both fail a few moments after the
installation *appears* to start, with an error message stating that the
update.inf file is incorrect.

Has anyone found the root of the issue?

-Daniel
