SP3 caused total crash

I had an auto update problem which was eventually fixed by running a malware
program and deleting 28 vundo trojans. Then I was directed to run a total
Windows update, which I did. It installed sp3, and when I clicked to restart
the computer, the system crashed. I cannot get anything except the blank
screen with "safe mode" at the four corners. I am able to get into the
system info page at start up, but that is about all.

This sounds like a major problem to me. I am running Windows XP, using
Mozilla as my browser. The malware program was installed on my laptop but
was not running when sp3 started its install.

Any suggestions?

Vundo is traditionaly difficult to get rid of and usually entails more than
a single applications to clean and some incorporation of safe mode startups
to completely get rid of - even for the more experienced who might run into
it. It is entirely plausible that despite your efforts - you still had it
or its buddies infesting your PC.

A place to get FREE support for SP3 installation issues *from Microsoft*...

When booting into safe mode - you should get an option to use system restore
or continue in safe mode... Are you not getting that option?
