I know many people that have had problems after installing Service Pack 3, so
I decided not to do it. The problem is, even though I have changed my
settings to not have automatic downloads, it still downloaded on its own. It
has not been installed yet. I cannot find a way to not have it downloaded or
get rid of the icon that keeps asking me to install it. I have Windows XP,
zone alarm firewall, avg anti-virus. Help ! I have tried custom install, but
there is no place to check hide updates.

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and
e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada. Go to
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...spx?gprid=1173 | select "Windows
XP" then select "Windows XP Service Pack 3"

How to configure and use Automatic Updates in WinXP:
