SP3 Download for XP MCE 2005?

Please could someone point be to a downloadable version
of SP3 which is compatible with XP MCE 2005, if such
exists?

I ask because I recall reading that SP3 for MCE is only
available via Windows Update and the download I've found
specifies "Supported Operating Systems: Windows XP Home
Edition ; Windows XP Professional Edition ; Windows XP
Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2", i.e. not MCE.
For me, Windows Update has only produced a series of
failures on two systems, so I'd like to try something
else.

Thanks for any help or clarification.

If you have already installed SP2 onto your Windows XP Media Center
Edition - SP3 will work fine on your system.

I'm afraid that's the answer to a different question. I have
SP2 on two MCE systems. SP3 installation via Windows Update
has failed repeatedly on both systems. Therefore, before
troubling this newsgroup with details of the failures, I want
to try running WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU, the Windows
XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT
Professionals and Developers, which I have downloaded from
Microsoft.

I'm therefore asking whether the package will run successfully
under MCE and, if not, is there an equivalent which will? I ask
because the package documentation does not list MCE as a
supported operating system and I remember reading that SP3
for MCE would only be only available via Windows Update.

Thanks for replying.

There is *one* SP3 for Windows XP. There may be language versions - but
there is *one* SP3 in essence. There is not a specific version for Windows
XP MCE.

You should 'trouble this newsgroup with the specifics' - as that is the only
reason these newsgroups exist. They are certainly not for people to come
post their successes (if that was the case - even though there have been a
few, relatively, posting these over the years - this is a failure.)

The release notes:
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...1/relnotes.htm
The Overview:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=115773

The point being that if you are experiencing failures - you will need to
troubleshoot them.

Downloading and using the IT download may/may not do anything for you -
except that you will have everything of SP3 local instead of depending on
the Internet and the process to determine which parts you need of SP3 doing
their thing over the Internet.

To my knowledge - the package in all forms will run successfully on MCE
(given the parameters in the release notes and/or the overview.)

Thank you for a comprehensive reply. I've rolled back my systems and
I'll try the installations again in a few days.

You are welcome.

Just waiting to see if anyone else reports issues and possible solutions?

Yes. And also to allow what I assume are very high traffic levels on
Windows Update servers to abate, which I suspect may have contributed to
a download failure on one system. And finally because I've had enough of
the problems for the time being.

Thanks again.

I have also had problems. I allowed the update of SP3 on my MCE 2005 and was
unable to reboot. Had to go into safe mode and uninstall SP3 in order to run
again. SP2 is already installed - -HELP

You need to start a new thread for this - the people who can
help you are unlikely to read a post which is hidden away at
the end of an exhausted thread on a different topic.

Before re-posting you may care to click on the link provided
by Shenan Stanley and read the article it leads to which deals
with "good" posting practice:

http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

Good luck with your problem.
