I have been looking all over this site trying to find the answer to my
problems which is ( among many!) that when I try and install SP3 it won't and
the error message shown is 0xd0000005. I have tried disabling the Norton
virus and completed some of the registry fixes on this site. Still can't do
it.

Help!

I am running windows XP Home edition with Norton Anti virus from BT. error
message in event log says.

Error message when you try to install WinXP SP3: "Access is denied" or
“Service Pack installation did not complete”
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949377

[Possible Fix:
http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/re...n-windows-xp/]

WinXP SP3 - Read all prerequisites for a successful installation
http://msmvps.com/blogs/harrywaldron...tallation.aspx

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and
e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada. Go to
http://support.microsoft.com/oas/def...spx?gprid=1173 | select "Windows
XP" then select "Windows XP Service Pack 3"

Thanks for the reply I had tried most of the links that you suggested.
However I have now soughted it by downloading SP3 to My Documents. Restarting
in safe mode and then installing SP3 from My Documents. This stopped whatever
the conflict was and installed fine. Thanks again for the reply.
