I cant seem to get XP SP3 installed. I get a pop-up message 'Access Denied'
about half way through. No other info as to what is trying to be accessed.
Any help?

You are logged into an account with Admin rights?

I understand the question, I'm just not sure what I am logged on as. There is
no login in on my PC. I just turn it on.

Actually, then, you don't understand the question. ;-)

Windows XP - no matter what you do with it - is a multi-user operating
system. You may have automatic logon enabled in some manner/form - but that
does not mean you are logged in/utilizing the computer with administrative
rights.

Try this...

Start button --> RUN --> type in:

cmd /k net localgroup administrators

--> Click OK.

A command prompt should open and the command should run. The command prompt
will stay open. There should be a title (Members) and a line (dashes ----)
and under that a list of administrators. Is your username in it?

Since you automatically logon - you may not even be aware of your username -
so, next, try this:

Start button --> RUN --> type in:

cmd /k echo %username%

--> Click OK.

A command prompt should open and the command will have ran. At the top -
you will see your username.

With that bit of information - come back and let us know if that username is
in the list of "administrators"...
(You can close the windows when done, of course.)

However - beyond that - here is the answer you need:
(Posted many times in this very newsgroup.)

Some people have gotten an "Access Denied" message when trying to install
SP3... Method 3 of this article seems to work most often - although you
might
want to check the other methods first:

Start-Control panel-User Accounts will tell you.

BTW, you are aware of the security implications both local and internet of
"just turning it on", i.e. you have NO password set?
