Speakers stopped working after update

So my machine (Lenovo T60) restarted overnight after installing the latest
patch (the one associated with an iPod issue).

This morning I discover that my speakers are no longer working. Headphones
work fine, but the actual speakers...nothing. I've restarted and checked the
speaker properties. No noted problems.

What's this all about?

You got lucky... Vista rebooted me and now blue screens at startup from the
same "automatic update" that got you.
Microsoft assistance center suggests i rebuild the PC, but I have every
confidence that the guys will figure it out after a few more complaints are
posted. SO UNIMPRESSED with microsofts lates "OS" (aka virus).

That seriously sucks. Yeah, I'm less than impressed with Vista, but at least
I can run (almost) all of my old apps.

I got lucky. When I checked for Lenovo updates I found that a new version of
my machine's BOIS had been released. When I updated the BIOS the speakers
started working again.

This Windows Update thing scares the heck out of me. But what is really
awful is requiring your customers to spend $60 to talk to tech support.
Twenty years ago, if you told someone that they wouldn't be able to talk to
the people who made the product you just bought without paying, they would
have laughed in your face.

Hi there,

Does your soundcard have auto sensing ability? If so unplug the jack from
the speakers and replug it.

If this does not help, try booting last known good configuration or use
system restore in safe mode prior to a point in time before the errror
occured.

Best Regards,
Michel Denie
