A specific update won't install after multiple attempts

Update for Windows XP (KB934238) will not install after multiple attempts by
automatic upsater and several manual attempts.

I hate to ask, but since you left it out - I feel compelled to - which of
the Operating Systems that this patch is for do you have?

.. Microsoft Windows XP Professional (or Supersets)
.. Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
.. Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition (32-bit x86)
.. Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition (32-bit x86)

And in what language is your Operating System?

On non-English versions of Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP, some text in
the print dialog box unexpectedly appears in English after you install the
..NET Framework 3.0

Have you installed the proper language pack?

If not - validate, download and install from that second link and reboot.
Then try your update again.
