Speech Recognition - too cool!

So last night I just taught myself everything about Speech Recognitio
on my system. How cool is that! It's not perfect but almost. I know i
doesn't come in handy for everything but WOW. I love the small command
I can utilize from it so I don't have to do anything else with the mous
or keyboard.

So one example, I like to cut, paste, delete and copy lots of items o
a constant basis throughout windows. Well, good old design flaws hav
lead us all to know that we cannot customize the toolbars in vista s
that we have a delete button up above or copy and paste, etc etc. Wel
now I don't mind that at all. After I select a couple items, I can sa
"copy" or "cut" or "delete" and it performs the action

I love it. It's so cool. And since I use a laptop, the mic is buil
right in and hears me clearly right in front of it. There are othe
features of this I'm still perfecting but sometimes I'm just don
typing. So now I can just dictate into the computer to type a message
The more you use it, the better at it learning your voice it becomes
But I tested out 3 messages to friends and had no more than 4 mistake
that I corrected. Plus, you can add words that it doesn't know and wil
store them. Like names of people or places. So over time, you can see
it will become easier and easier. Or say you're on the desktop. You ca
just say "open calculator" or "open outlook" or "open notepad" instea
of navigating all the way into the start menu to click on it. And
don't like to keep thousands of icons on my desktop to have quic
access. I like it to be clean.

Only a couple flaws to this are

1) User Account Control. Anytime you open something and UAC kicks in
speech rec. is off. You have to manually click ok to advance back int
normal windows. Th

2) Adobe Flash. You can pretty much use speech rec. on any webpage. Yo
can do what they call "say what you see" but it doesn't recognize an
items inside Flash. You can say "show numbers" and it just highlight
all the options available to click, but with Flash it just recognize
the whole thing as one option. GRR

Just couldn't be cooler

Hm... our move towards Windows 7 begins..

I personally found it inconvenient, but I suppose that's because I am so
familiar with the keyboard...
Not to mention, if you go to say something to an actual person, your
computer starts going insane on you : )

I actually attempted to dictate a large amount of information using Speech
Recognition, and it was a horrible murder afterwards. There were so many
little mistakes that I hardly noticed, and just ended up going through and
redoing everything. This was after having gone through speech training as
well...
But, still, if you watch what it says, it could be useful.

I find using a keyboard easier to memorize than speech recognition commands.
I even printed out all the commands for speech recognition then I found out
it is is not 100% accurate and sometimes gets confused about which command
you said. I had the same issue with Game Commander software which is speech
recognition software for games. My keyboard is 100% accurate so until speech
recognition software can match that I find it useless. Microsoft speech
engine also messes up a game I have (Enemy Engaged2) because it has speech
recognition too. Speech engine starts up every time I start the game under
Vista and causes the game to lose focus. WTF didn't Microsoft put in
controls to disable it completely or a way to uninstall it? Dumb ****ers.
