How to speed IE7 startup?

I would like to speed up the startup of IE7. It currently take ~ 7
seconds. After it is open, a new site very quick.

One option is to keep IE open. Is there a way to always keep it
running minimized in the background?

Any other suggestions?

My system:
clean install Vista Home Premium
3 GB dual channel DDR2 memory
dual core 3 GHz
Vista performance index: processor = 4.8, memory = 4.9
minimum programs running in background

Thanks in advanced.

If it takes that long, it is probably loading some add-on that takes a
while.
I would start by disabling any un-needed add-ons and see if performance
improves.
Because IE7 is bloated compared to IE6 it does take longer to load anyway.

I agree with "NotMe" disable the add ons you dont need...

also you might want to disable startup programs that may make your pc slower
(not only for ie7 but for everything)

that would not solve the ie loading slow problem, instead he will have a
browser even slower to load, go figure!

i agree, try disabling the addons

What is your home page?
Is it quicker if you set it to blank?

That's what happens if you minimize it.

firefox is slower than ie7...

this is because ie7 is preloaded with windows when windows starts

Thank for all the suggestions, but nothing has helped yet.

I had only one add on -- shockwave. There was no significant change
with it disabled.

My home page was google and only a very slight change with blank page.

Foxfire is about the same slow speed.

When IE is minimized and a new window opened, they both are maximized.
