This one has been on the books for ages.
Someone actually produced a third-party spell check for Windows Messenger (Windows Live
Messenger) which worked okay, but interfered with the UI a bit. There's also been some other
recent attempts to add it to Messenger via Messenger Plus but the performance really wasn't
usable.
There are lots of issues involved with adding spell check from licensing to localization
which is the reason why it keeps not becoming a reality in Messenger, not to mention the
"text speak" that some people use. Eventually Windows will get an internal spell check and
this will be dealt with then.
