I have not seen any improvements. It broke one program for me, and made
another act funny. Copying and moving files now run faster, more smoothly.
Before SP-1, if you were listening to music (mp3's) ... your internet
downloading would slow way down. I haven't tested this yet under SP-1.

If you have a second hard-drive/partition, you should learn how to "image"
your Vista partition. That's the easiest way to go-back / recover from
disaster.

good luck,
NetLink

After installing SP1, my Vista installation appears to be more stable,
and programs are starting a little faster too. Copying files betwen
drives and network shares has been greatly improved.

The one real problem I have is that Microsoft caved under pressure from
Google and the US Department of Justice, and removed the Search command
from the start menu. Search is still accessible via Computer or the
<WINKEY>+<F> shortcut.

Other than that, you should install SP1.

Honestly, I like it so far. I haven't had any problems, and I'd have to echo
what the others have said here about it improving file transfers. It also
has helped a bit with remote terminal connections for remote desktop access.
