Spybot - unexpected error in fixing problems

I'm not sure if this is the correct newsgroup for my question because I
don't know if this is a Vista problem or something else. I am using Vista
Home Premium (full version, not OEM), running on a Dell 530 desktop that is
only 3 months old. I have Windows firewall and AVG free running. I
connected via cable and am using a Linksys wireless-G router. I run Adaware
almost daily and Spybot Search & Destroy on a weekly basis.

AdAware has never detected any major problems -- there always some files to
delete but never any *critical* problems. Spybot never reported any
problems at all, until today. However, today SpyBot reported ErrorSmart (1
entry) as a problem. When I tried to "fix" the problem," SpyBot responded
with an error message and could not fix the problem.

The error message says:
Unexpected error in fixing problems
(Cannot create file "C:\Windows\wininit.ini". Access is denied)

I rebooted, ran AdAware (no problems detected), then re-ran SpyBot. The same
problem occurred.

When I click on the "+" beside ErrorSmart (within SpyBot) to expand, it
returns this information:
(SBI $C6597282) Web page
C:\Program Files\ErrorSmart\ErrorSmart.url

(Incidentally, I'm not sure if the message is SBI or SB1.)

Can someone on this newsgroup help? I don't have any idea what caused the
problem (or even what this problem means), and I have no idea how to fix it.

Thanks,
MaryL

It looks like SpyBot treats ErrorSmart as a virus.

Perhaps you have run ErrorSmart recently?

The only thing I can suggest is running Spybot as "Administrator" and make
sure no web browsers or email programs are open.

Yes, that may be the problem. I downloaded a demo of ErrorSmart recently.
I did not buy the paid version, but the demo is still on my computer. I
will uninstall it and see if that solves the problem (in this case, the
"problem" may simply ben in the error message generated by Spy Bot).

Thanks!

Your "problem" is probably too many anti-malware programs. I only run AdAware about once a month
or when I'm bored. Thats the only one I run.
