I encountered a runtime error installing Spyware Doctor on Vista Ultimate (32
bit). Their support suggested installing it in safe mode. After booting back
from safe mode my desktop was totally different. No Dreamscene video
wallpaper etc. It occured to me later that Dreanscene could have been the
culprit that interfered with install. Anyway I ran SW Doc after that and it
found 43 infections and removed them. Somehow in my efforts to resore
Dreamscene by going into MSCONFIG and changing boot mode to normal etc. my
system eventully crashed and comes up with black screen saying my Vista
Ulitmate license is deactivated. I tried system restore with no avail.
I aquired Vista Business version back in December (I think) when MS had an
offer to get Vista free if you watch three MS development online video
conferences. I later took an offer from MS to upgrade to Ultimate for $139. I
recevied no product key for the upgrade. It was activated with an online
bitlocker. Many questions to do with recoveries and product keys (OEM vs.
Retail) have been answered on this board. But does anyone have knowledge of
what I would I would encounter on recovery or re-installation in my case? I
have a full back up to a spare HD using Vista Backup. But Murphy could be
lying in wait for that. I would love to restore my current system since much
has been installed since backup.
Thanks in advance for any help
