SQL 2005 Express Install

Hello,

I have downloaded SQL 2005 Express from the Microsoft website, however, each
attempt I try to install, I get an error message that kills the complete
install. The error message states that the install can not make changes or
startup DCOM. I am trying to install this on Windows Vista Business and
understand that SP2 is required for full capabilities. However, SP2 is only
an update, not a complete install of SQL 2005 Express. Has anyone received
this error and found a work around?

Thanks in advance,

Brad

Have you shutdown all processes when doing the install? Are you using Run As
Administrator when running the install? Did you download the install to the
machine and tired to run it from there?

Mr. Arnold & Mr. Da Costa,

Thanks for you assistance. To answer your Questions Mr. Arnold,

1) I have suspended the Anti-Virus program
2) I have disabled the firewall
3) Not many other programs are active

I have downloaded the version Mr. Da Costa advised me of, and during
installation I have reached a further point than prior. However, after all
items are "checked ok" or "passed", it starts to install. When it reaches to
the point of "Detect IIS" it bombs out and the installation window disappers.
I reviewed the Event Manager and there are not any logs available for an
error. It does not install the program either. Again, I am using Vista
Business.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'll assume IIS is active and working properly.

Mr. Arnold,

I will assume as well. When I enter the following http://localhost/ I get
the IIS 7 webpage.

I also forgot to mentioned I enabled the built in administrator account and
am now using that to try and install. Same outcome though!

You got the retail DVD?

If you do, then I suggest that you flatten/format the HD and reinstall the
O/S.
