Originally I upgraded my SQL 2005 to SQL 2008, but when I tried to apply the
SP1 I kept getting a installation failure with "Error Code: 0x84B20001
Try to install the update again, or request help from one of the following
resources." having tried this a couple of times I completely uninstalled SQL
2008 and SQL2005 and reinstalled SQl 2008 from scratch, now when I try to
install SP1 I get an installation failure with "Error Code: 0xB56EB267 ". I
have tried googling, binging (if there is such an verb) with no sucess. I am
getting mighty fed up with this as everytime I try, more and more of my
precious diskspce get eaten.

Any help much appreciated.

L.S.

I encountered the same error today.

When I wasn't able to update using the Microsoft Update website, I decided
to download the update package from download.microsoft.com. I installed the
SQL server 2008 SP1 using this installation package:
SQLServer2008SP1-KB968369-x86-ENU.exe.

Unfortunately, this didn't work either, but it did gave me a complete error
report wich included the message that I didn't have enough diskspace
available. (Eventhoug at the beginning of this proces I had more than 1 Gb of
free space on this drive).

After freeing up large amounts of space (15 extra Gb's) I repeated the
process using the installation package and this time the installation was
succesful.

Hope this might be helpful.
