I got a LOT of help from the WinUpdate team on this, and they did not quit
on me.
They were baffled for a while but I was happy in the end. They analyzed my
update
logs and figured out was was wrong.
Before installing SQL2005 I had 2000 w/Analysis Services, prior to
installing 2005 I unistalled 2000, BUT the registry key for Analysis
Services was still in place. Analysis Services could not be updated since it
was not on the machine, but WU sees the reg key and continues to offer the
update.
This may/may not be your problem but it was mine. Once I took the action
below
I was not offered the update again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Apparently Analysis Services was at one time installed on this machine and
was not properly uninstalled, so the Service Pack is trying to update the
nonexistent Analysis Services.
Deleting the following registry key should solve the problem:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3]
Note: This key is machine specific, so only YOU should remove this key on
THIS machine– Also would be a good idea to save off the key!!!!"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope some of this helps.
