I see pictures when I surf showing windows in Vista lined up 3D on the
desktop. How do I do this? Here is an example.

Hello Mark,

This is Flip 3D and is part of the color scheme "Windows Aero". The
Vista Home Basic edition does not have this feature though. Normally you
would press "Ctrl + Windows Key + Tab" or "Windows Key + Tab" to see
this. This tutorial will show you more about this and how to be able to
use Flip 3D.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Click the "Switch between windows" button in Quick Launch toolbar (the
button w/ many windows), or
Winkey + tab then hold the Winkey pressed.
In your mouse software you might have a "Flip 3D" command - same thing.

Interesting. I've been missing that flip windows thing too

Win+tab, Alt+tab, Ctrl+Win+tab, Ctrl+Tab.....all of these doesn't brin
any windows stacked on my computer

The closest thing I guess is the windows switcher which was in my quic
launch bar by default. By clicking that one (or alt+tab), i get the sam
kind of windows switcher as the one I had in XP

Brink, I downloaded the *Flip 3D.zip* file as you explained in th
'tutorial' (http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/68863-flip-3d.html). Whe
I click the flip 3D.lnk file all I get is a "open file - securit
warning, do you want to open this file?" window. By clicking "open
absolutely _nothing_ happens

So I still don't have the benefit of the Flip 3D or what ever you wann
call it. Any more tips

I got to say, I am in the wild when I'm thinking about some of th
details Microsoft has done with Vista. When I first read about Vista an
could see that cool 3D flip window thing + other snacks I was thinkin
"Oh man I'm looking forward to it". Now I'm running Vista Ultimat
(which I assume would include this flip 3D thing), and according t
Brinks tutorial on the subject, I have to create a frek'n shortcut wit
the path: *C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe DwmApi #105* ?? What th
hell is going on? Is it expected that millions of novice users (which i
many ways can describe my own level of skills) are just going to have t
figure this out them self? I mean the flip 3D is obviously much coole
then the old fashion windows switcher, so why the hell wasn't the fli
3D already there on the desktop, the quick launch, or where ever withi
reach for us average PC user? I just can't understand it...... :sarc

Dudelidu,

Did you extract the shortcut (Flip 3D.lnk) from the ZIP file to the
desktop after you have allowed the ZIP file to open? The shortcut will
not work while just viewing it from the opened ZIP folder.

Do you have the color scheme "Windows Aero" selected?

Hope this helps,
Shawn

This is the part where I dig a hole to hide in.....

No I kind of went blind when I scrolled passed this super sized WARNING
you had made telling me to change the color scheme Now it's working.

But even so, is it really this hard for every person out there to make
Vista do this 3D flip? Must everybody create this shortcut with that
crazy system32 link (which you or someone had ready made for download)?
Or is it just Vista Ultimate? Can somebody please explain that to me?
Since purchasing Vista I've been looking around on my friends Vista
computers, and almost everyone have different default settings on a
whole bunch of stuff. What's up with that? Is it a total coincidence how
YOUR Vista machine looks when you launch it for the first time? Or is it
huge differences between all the different types of Vista versions out
there and possibly differences between the different language versions
as well. I'm really scratching my head over these things, so much I
probably won't have much hair left soon.....

LOL Dudelidu,

I'm happy to hear that you got it working now. All Vista retail and
most non-retail installations should have the same default setups per
type of edition. With that said, there can be some minor wording
differences with the different language versions. Plus, if you have a
OEM copy of Vista from a computer manufactuter (ex: HP, Gateway,
etc...), they may have made some customizations to Vista that would not
ordinarily be there.

Normally the Flip 3D (*Swith Between Windows*) shortcut is in *Quick
Launch* by default for all editions of Vista except the Home Basic
edition. It does not have the Windows Aero color theme, so no Flip 3D.

You can compare the differences between each Vista edition here:
'Windows Vista: Compare editions'
