My first suggestion would be to search the forum, since there's a topic about
KOTOR about a page down from yours. But, I'm in a good mood tonight, so
here's what fixed my KOTOR problem:

1) Uninstall KOTOR completely.

2) Insert the 1st disc, but DON'T run the installer from the autorun launcher.

3) Go Explore the disc, and manually run Setup.exe IN COMPATIBILITY MODE for
WinXP. (right-click, properties, compatibility)

4) After installing, make sure swkotor.exe is running in Compatibility mode
for XP AND is being run as an administrator. (right-click, properties,
compatibility). Then run it either through the launcher or by
double-clicking on swkotor.exe.

5) If you get an error about Securom (every so often), just run it again.

Well Jr, Im not in a good mood, mostly cuz of Vista, so listen up. I
searched and saw your post. I did that already, doesnt work. Still quits,
freezes, and all the other game compatability problems that Vista has. Want
to try again or gonna tuck your tail and run?

Well, I could go through all the usual stuff about rolling back to non-beta
drivers and running in safe mode, but I'm going to assume you've already
tried all the usual stuff.

Like I said, the above fix worked for me, but I did have to do something
else to get KOTOR2 running. I have no idea if it's related to your problem
with KOTOR1, but it's worth a shot. To get KOTOR2 to work, I had to replace
the Mss32.dll file in it's main directory with an older one that you can
download at

http://files.filefront.com/Mss32dll/.../fileinfo.html

Kind of a shot in the dark since that was my fix for 2, not 1, but it's the
only thing I can think of. My computer expertise stops at the GUI level, so
if there's some sort of inherent incompatibility with a driver or card, I
can't really help you.

Thanks. I played with it last nite, redoing some video drivers because that
was the inherent problem. Did so many things can't even remember what worked
and what didnt. I played for an hour last nite, so far so good.

Thanks for the help! ~Ben
