Start Menu Icon

I installed new software and pinned the executable to the
start menu. But, Vista displays a generic icon in the start
menu for this program. All other programs pinned to the start
menu display the correct icon.
Any way to get Vista to dispaly the proper icon for this program??

Thanks,
James

You might try, right clicking on the program listing on the start menu,
click on properties, then click on " change icon", browse to your new
program's folder and see if you can select the icon there, then click apply
and ok, see if that might work for you.

That was the first thing I tried.
No button to Change Icon.

Hmm, if you haven't, might try it again ( assuming you are finding the
icon ), and be sure to click on apply, before clicking ok.

I just recently had that problem, and had to do it a couple of times to get
it to take.
About the only thing I can think of...

No good. Actually, though in the Properties General tab
it is showing the correct icon just not in the start menu.

Sorry, I am out of ideas there, perhaps someone else might come along with
other suggestions. You might try emailing the program's support as well to
see if they have any suggestions.

Good luck,

Hi James,

You might see if changing the executable's icon to just the same one
again will reresh it. You mat have to remove the old Pin and create a
new Pin for it to work afterwards.

If this still does not help, then you can rebuild the icon cache to
force Vista to reload all the icons again. This may allow it to show the
correct icon. This tutorial will show you how if needed.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Deleted the db no help.
It's only this one executable. Even when I create a
shortcut and pin that to the start menu I can't change the icon.
The change icon button is there for the shortcut but it will not
alpply the icon to it.

James,

It may be using a smaller icon. See if reducing the size of the icons
in the Start menu to small will let it show. This tutorial will show you
how if needed.
