Start menu Icons hosed up

Suddenly, some of my Start Menu Icons have changed to plain, white squares,
and no longer function. When I click the Icons in question, I'm told that
it doesn't have a program associated with it, and that I need to create an
association in Control Panel. R-Clicking and checking properties is no
help.

I've been able to replace most of them by creating new ones, but in some
cases, I can't remember what the command file is.

Is there something available somewhere to repair this problem?

Which file extensions are causing the problem? It could be that .exe
files are no longer associated. If so there are some .reg fixes on
this site that should sort it for you:

If it's not a common file extension problem, you can always try using
system restore to roll back a few days to before the problem.
