I have just lost my 'Windows' links in the start menu - y'know those to
Defender, DVD Maker, Meeting Space etc. I have tried system restore but that
didn't do anything. Apart from working through a list and having to put the
links back by hand, is there a quicker way that won't upset my PC too much.
Will a restore from the installation disk do it?

Yes the restore fuction from the installation dvd can restore these for
you, It might be easyier to create a new user account and copy the links
from there?

You can download the default shortcuts from here:
http://www.winhelponline.com/fixes/s..._shortcuts.zip

Unzip and extract the contents to the following folder:

"C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"
