Start menu picture, music links not mapping to external hard drive

Moved pictures and music to an external hard drive and things were going
fine. Then operated pc for a period of time disconnected from the xHD, during
which time the Start Menu right collumn links to pictures and music also seem
to have lost their targets. When I right-click and select properties, only a
very basic menu appears which neither allows me to restore defaults or choose
a target location.

Any help with reconnecting the music and pictures links?

Look in the these keys in the Registry Editor:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

What is the Data for the Names "My Music" and "My Pictures" (no quotation
marks).

The defaults for the first key should be "C:\Users\(You)\Music" and
"C:\Users\(You)\Pictures" (no quotation marks).

The defaults for the second key should be "%USERPROFILE%\Music" and
"%USERPROFILE%\Pictures" (no quotation marks).

THanks for your quick response, dean-dean. I am not familiar with the
Registry Editor, however. Once I find it, I think I can go from there, but if
someone could please point me to the Registry Editor (and maybe offer any
tips on its use) that would be helpful.

I picked up on how to use the registry editor from another thread, followed
the above steps, and observed no change in the situation.

Nothing happens when you click on a shell folder link in the Windows Vista Start menu:
