I am not an MVP, but I've been using computers for a number of years and what
you describe is a classic virus symptom.
See if you can open in safe mode and then run any antivirus program that you
have installed. You open safe mode by turning off the computer, switching it
on again, and keep tapping key F8 until (hopefuly) it does offer to allow you
to open in safe mode. Let us know if that helps you.
