I have a newish computer now and for the life of me i cant solve the startup
issues that computer has. About half the time the screen freezes at the
stage where the bar comes up with the little squares that go across the bar.
Dont know what its called but im sure you know what im talking about. So
basically what happens is that the squares move across the bar and they stop
momentarily and the computer starts up (when all is well). But the other
times the damn thing stops completely. Can anyone help me out. I was told
it was a virus. I have onecare it never has picked up anything. Your help
would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Remove OneCare, does the issue go away?

It's probably not a virus, they tend to be much more detrimental. What you
have is some application in the startup routine that is not behaving or
initiating properly. OneCare has been noted to cause this issue, as have
some of the other major antivirus applications (Norton's is one good
example). Disabling or removing anything suspect is the way to isolate the
cause, you can run msconfig from the start/search prompt to check what else
is loading at startup.

If you are removing OneCare, do it in Diagnostics Mode to safely remove it.

Hi Bartbridge,

You might try running a Startup Repair to see if can find anything
wrong to fix. This tutorial will show you how.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/91...up-repair.html

If it does not find a problem, then you can use Method One or Two, in
the the tutorial below, to disable all the startup programs as a test to
see which one may be the cause. You just enable them again one by one
until you find the problem. Then you can remove it.
