Hi Merk01--
For theories sake I'd remind you that for whatever reasons in XP and Vista
(not sure about Win 7 yet) you increase your options by trying all 4 safe
modes (in adition safe mode with networking and safe mode with VGA and safe
mode with command).
Here's what I'd do. If you have a Vista DVD try Startup Repair.
If Startup Repair is no go, and you have a Vista DVD, I'd then try a little
known but very high yield set of commands.
Pop in the DVD and access the command prompt outside of Windows available
from the DVD's options.
Then in a few seconds type in these commands using the very useful
bootrec.exe startup tool that keys to the MSKB below:
How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to
troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows Vista

You don't need to use the BCDedit information in this KB.
At the command prompt in succession type:
Bootrec.exe /fixmbr>enter key
Bootrec.exe /fixboot>enter key
Bootrec.exe /scanos>enter key
Bpptrec/exe /Rebuild BCD>enter key
You'll get an attaboy after each --something that says done or successful; I
can't remember the exact wording.
Let us know how you make out.
Good luch,
CH
