I started to load updates and lost power now it will not boot up

I was installing a windows update when I lost power now my window xp will not
start even in safe mode I have shut down and tried to restart several times
but I cant get a desktop screen. I am confused the computer woked fine before
the updat of sp2

You should not be confused.
A power failure during an installation of anything could have unpredictable
results.
Usually a power failure is unpredictable, but sometimes during electrical
storms or other events are in the vicinity.
Those are good times not to update and probably even power off the computer.
