I recently decided to clean up my startmenu and i accidentally deleted the
shortcut for Windows Update in "all programs", not knowing the shortcut in
the quick access pane above the internet and email shortcuts was connected to
it. I've tried using recovery tools to get it back but to no avail. I really
want to get the shorcut back the way it was when i first installed Windows
(eg. date created/modified, comment, target, etc.) Does anyone know how i can
get back the shortcut the way it initially was, and not having to make my own
new shorcut to it? Any help would be appreciated.

Create a new shortcut by right clicking on the desktop and selecting "new shortcut":
Location of the item: %SystemRoot%\system32\wupdmgr.exe
Select Next
Now type a name for the shortcut: Windows Update
Select Finish

Now you can drag the Shortcut to your Start Menu
Right click on the Start Button and select Open all Users
After making the necessary adjustments to the size of the windows so you can see the new
icon on the desktop, drag the new shortcut to Windows Update into the Start Menu.

I'm using windows Vista and i dont see this in system32. I thankyou for your
help, but what i actually was after was how to get the shortcut like it was
when i first installed Vista. Like if i reinstall a program all shortcut
icons will be placed back where they should be on the desktop and startmenu
etc. Now with Windows Update i want to do the same thing, somehow
reinstalling or repairing it so the shortcut comes back. (Just like new) If
there is no way to achieve this then i will resort to making my own shortcut
and could someone tell me what goes in each box (target, comment, start in),
copying what it says in the original Windows Vista Update shortcut. Thanks
